NAMIBIA-GERMAN BILATERAL CONSULTATIONS CONCLUDE

This year’s Consultations on Development Cooperation took place from the 7 to 8 of February in Windhoek. During the consultations, both parties confirmed the three focal areas of the joint cooperation economic .The Management of resources, sustainable development and transport. Among other fields of cooperation outside focal areas discussed were water, energy and sports.

 

However, the main goal of German-Namibia development cooperation is to fight against poverty and inequality in the country in order to improve the living standard of people. Namibian-German cooperation is fully aligned with the ideas and goals formulated in Namibia’s long-term development strategies as well as the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 

Consultations were held in a friendly manner and good will as it was characterized by intensive and transparency. Both parties highlighted several concrete successes to Namibian-German cooperation. The German delegation also informed touched on the priorities of Germany’s G20 Presidency” especially its focus on economic development and fostering private investment in Africa.

 

The two governments confirmed their commitment to further strengthen the special partnership and friendship between the two countries. This is reflected in the scale of German development funding (the highest per capita input in Africa) for Namibia.

 

Since Namibia‘s independence, official development assistance by Germany amounts to almost one billion Euro (roughly 14 billion NAD.

 

These consultations paved the way for the next bilateral Negotiations on Development Cooperation, which are planned for the second half of 2017.
