The Macroeconomic Research and Policy Analysis Division is responsible for the preparation of the Macroeconomic Framework for the formulation of National Development Plans and the development of medium and long-term development policies and strategies. In conjunction with the Regional and Sectoral Planning Division, the Division conducts economic analysis of the annual development Budgets. It also coordinates periodic monitoring and assessment of the implementation of National and Regional Development Plans and programmes.

The Division of Macroeconomic Research and Policy Analysis consists of the following sub-divisions.

1. Macroeconomics Porogramming and Research Subdivision

The sub-division is responsible for the preparation of the macroeconomic framework for National Development Plans and the Development Budget as well as the preparation of the National State of the Economy annual reports. It is also responsible for the development and management of the macroeconomic and econometric models, undertaking financial and economic impact analysis of the Public Sector Investment Programme and undertaking economic studies and research on particular topics of interest for the course of development.

2. Strategic Planning and Policy Coordination

The Sub-Division of Strategic Planning and Policy Coordination is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the activities related to the preparation and formulation of integrated medium and long-term national development policies and strategies such as the NDPs and Vision 2030 at both the national, regional and sectoral levels. In collaboration with other functional units, the sub-division coordinates and monitors the implementation of the development plans and undertakes periodic reviews of such plans.
