In our collective efforts to strengthen the Namibia-Germany Bilateral Cooperation, our two governments have agreed to partner on the funding of projects in the Urban Development and Water Sectors. We invite you to the triple signing ceremony- the first of its kind undertaken by the National Planning Commission.
The signing ceremony will see our two governments signing the project titled: “Establishment of an Urban Development Fund” between the NPC & KfW to the tune of €7 million, funded through the KfW development Bank. The Fund will support infrastructure development in selected local authorities participating in the ongoing Inclusive and Sustainable Urban Development project implemented through GIZ and the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development. It is specifically aimed at addressing the housing backlog, advancing bulk infrastructure development urban and peri-urban areas as well as facilitating the formalization of informal settlements.
In the same occasion, we will also be making en routes towards addressing Namibia’s water scarcity challenges through the signing of two project grant funding agreements, in this case the – “Climate Resilient Water Supply to Northern Namibia project €10 million” and the “Water Sector Support Program 2 (WSSP 2) – Accompanying Measure of €3 million”. Both these agreements are to be signed by NPC, KfW and Namwater. This brings the total commitment for the three projects to a total of €20 million being offered by the Federal Republic of Germany.
It is against this background that the NPC extends its invitation to all media houses to cover the triple signing ceremony on the above-mentioned date and report about this crucial event.
