NAMIBIAN GOVERNMENT DISCUSS WITH DEVELOPMENT PARTNER’S

The Government of the Republic of Namibia a discussion forum with its cooperating development partners on 5 December 2016. The event took place at the Parliament building. The purpose for that event was to ensure effectiveness of development assistance in support of the government national development plans, harambee prosperity plan, especially in line with new adopted continental and international development agendas, such as the Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The forum was further largely aimed at focusing on exploring ways on collaboration around or in support of transformational initiatives that scale-up and leverage resources to achieve the desired impact under the national development plans, as well as addressing chronic challenges perpetuated by constant drought in the country. In ensuring that the international community support Namibia in translating her political independence into economic independence, the forum offered an opportunity to explore how development partners and other stakeholders can be better partners to the GRN and explore on possible ways to tackle national developed challenges, identified in the national development plans. Moreover, this forum will go beyond information sharing toward actively seeking best practice in harmonization through establishing stronger links with sector/thematic groups. The event was further intended at providing space for reflection and to allow for deepened partnership in order to ensure better coordination, collaboration and improvement on the quality of development support provided to the country through its development partnership. The forum was one of the mechanisms for implementation of Principles of Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness, to which Namibia became a signatory in 2007.
