The Governments of the Republic of Namibia and the Peoples’ Republic of China (PRC) concluded a grant agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation at the National Planning Commission (NPC) on Monday 18th November 2013. The Grant will be used for projects to be proposed by the Government of the Republic of Namibian in consultation with the Government of the People’s Republic of China. The Grant amounting to One Hundred and Fifty Million Renminbi Yuan (RMB 150,000,000.00), which is equivalent to Two Hundred and Forty Seven Million, Five Hundred Thousand Namibian Dollars (N$ 247,500,000.00) will benefit and support the following areas:
- National Youth Service College, construction of phase 2
- Drilling of boreholes in all fourteen regions
- Upgrading of Swakopmund to Henties Bay road
The signing was done by the Director General of the National Planning Commission (NPC), Mr. Tom Alweendo and His Excellency, the Ambassador of the Peoples’ Republic of China to Namibia, Mr. Xin Shunkang.
The Government of the Republic of Namibia and the Government of the People’s Republic of China share long standing relations that date back to the period of the liberation struggle. According to Mr. Alweendo, the Chinese Government has been a steadfast partner and has contributed significantly towards the attainment of Namibia’s national aspirations over the years. He further extended, on behalf of the Government, his sincere appreciation on the support provided by the Government of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Namibia will continue to promote healthy development cooperation relations between the two countries on the basis of mutual interest, he added.
H.E. Mr. Xin Shunkang, emphasised that, both parties need to sum up achievements made this year, and reflect on the good results that have been achieved, and sighting shortcomings to overcome next year and envisage what to be done on the coming year.
